About the conference
The title of this year’s conference is It’s Your Move: Strategies and Solutions for a Changing World. The conference provides an excellent opportunity for security/privacy planners, officers, compliance staff and operational managers to learn how their peers are handling important privacy and security concerns such as risk management, business associates and cybersecurity. The program on Monday and Tuesday features three plenary sessions and 17 breakout sessions on Legal/Regulatory Compliance, Business Associates/Technology and Cybersecurity/Risk Management topics. The sessions include time for Q&A, and there is ample time to network with peers outside the sessions as well. Monday’s keynote speaker is Dr. Robert Califf, former Commissioner of the FDA, who will discuss Imagining the Role of AMCs in the New Information Era. On Tuesday, our Quiz the Regulator session will feature Deven McGraw, Deputy Director for Health Information Privacy in the HHS Office for Civil Rights. In today’s high-stakes cybersecurity environment, chief information security officers must be more than technology and people managers. An effective CISO is a combination of business leader, risk visionary, technology translator and team mentor and enabler. If this sounds different than the technology-focused infosec path of the past, that’s because it is. To be an effective leader, security practitioners must become strategists who can look across the entire organization—its technology and people—and identify vulnerabilities proactively. These vulnerabilities, though, aren’t what you will find in the CVE; instead, leaders understand that running a proactive, capable security organization starts with people and processes. And to accomplish that, the CISO her/himself must first possess the leadership skills and tools to inspire those around them.
